But if periodontal disease has progressed to the point where the bone becomes infected, more aggressive treatment will be needed. Our dentist in Studio City will use oral surgical procedures to remove the infection. If pockets have formed around the teeth, a pocket reduction will be done. With this procedure, the gum tissue is pulled away from the teeth and all bacteria are removed. Any bone that has been damaged will be smoothed out so that bacteria will not have the chance to form there again in the future. Then the tissue is sutured into place.
